Dan’s Blog: Round 6, Thruxton
“Thruxton was yet another new track and one I hadn’t visited since 2019 on a 250! I had raced at Thruxton 4 times and been on the podium 3, so I was confident for a good result.
Safe to say Friday didn’t go as expected, something went wrong with my brakes and I hit the air fence head first. Fortunately I walked away with minor injuries, luck was on my side.
Saturday was a change of fortunes, I qualified P22 only 1.9 seconds off the top. The sprint race went even better, crossing the line in 17th. I fought in and out the points all race, battling with very experienced riders!
For the first race on Sunday I was very confident, my pace in the sprint race was good and I felt I could improve on it. The first half the race was amazing, moving up to P13 at one point! I was in the mix with some very big names. I couldn’t quite hang on to the points again, tire consumption got the better of me!
Unfortunately race 3 I was unable to leave the garage, when we started the bike it dropped a valve. End of that race!
I learnt so much at Thruxton, tire consumption is something I’ve never had to do before. We were fast just lacked the experience needed to bring good solid points home.
Next up is Cadwell Park, the most physical and difficult track on the calendar! I can’t wait for the challenge.
See you soon,
DJ”
