Dan’s Blog – Oulton Park, BSB
“Going in to Oulton Park we were confident, after some great pre-season testing the bike was where I needed it to be. Unfortunately I let this confidence get the better of me, crashing at the beginning of first practice. The team did an excellent job of rebuilding the bike after a substantial amount of damage. Having finished FP1 in first by 1.4 seconds, I was still confident.
The conditions for FP2 were different, we tried many things to try and bring back the great feeling I had in my KTM. One of the changes we made caused a crash later in to the session, I was trying too hard which caused my feedback to be inaccurate. Once again I can’t fault the team for still believing in me and working hard to fix the damage.
Qualifying was very positive, finishing on pole by 0.7 of a second. The feeling in the bike was better, going in to race one I was confident. The race was my first race in almost 7 months, so as you can imagine the nerves were high. I got off to a great start, leading the field, unfortunately I made a mistake at Shell Oils which caused a high-side.
Once again the team worked fantastically to repair the damage. For race two we made a change which worked. Finishing in second, after the difficult weekend we had as a team, to come away with 20 points was a positive ending. We are now able to take these steps in to the next race, where I feel we will be a lot stronger.
I can’t thank the team enough for their hard work. I’d also like to thank my sponsors, City Lifting, Rack Storage UK, Shark Helmets, Vroom Media, TCX Boots, Rock Oil and Furygan for their support.
