Dan’s Blog – Red Bull Rookies gets underway in Jerez and Mugello
Hello everyone,
Sorry for a lack of updates but I’ve been very busy. Here’s what’s been going on…
First off, I had round one of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Jerez. Before the weekend I was very excited but also quite nervous. I prepared the best I could for the meeting so I was ready!
In qualifying I had a really good feeling with the track and bike, I ended up in P8 on the grid. My best ever qualifying!! For the races there was a big group for P7, in race one I finished P12 and in race two I finished P14. I’m not ecstatic with these results but it’s a good foundation to build on!
After round one of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup it was back to the reality of school! I had my Business Studies and Design and Technology exams to do! It’s really important as a rider to have a back up plan as you never know what can happen in motorbike racing. The picture shows me welding a frame for a bedside cabinet that I built for my Design and Technology coursework.
After finishing my school work it was time for round two of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Mugello. It’s a track I have never been to so I prepared by watching old videos and doing laps in my head.
The weekend was a very positive one, after a small crash in FP2 I still managed to qualify in P12, only 1 second off pole position. In the race I was under the lap record, and had the 4th fastest lap of the race. But still finished in P14! I made a big mistake during the race which meant I lost touch with the leading group, after that there was no catching them back up.
Overall it was a positive weekend, next up is Assen which is a track I know well! So looking for big improvements there.
See you all soon,
And thanks as always for your support,
Dan
