Blog – Dan looks back on the Le Mans CEV Moto3 weekend
“With both me and Rory having never been to this track the plan was to treat it like a practice, this meant no pressure. It also helped that it was wet which meant everything slowed down. For me this session went really well, we ended Q1 in 26th which was an improvement from 34th. I was happy with this result.
Having familiarised ourselves with the track we decided to really start pushing for a better result. The conditions were similar to Q1 which meant in the first exit of Q2 we could push on. I improved by 1 second and was in 21st. On the second run I improved by another second, putting me in 18th, a lap time of 1:53:8, for me this was a great result, I was extremely happy.
The initial getaway for the race was really good but as I went for a gap in front of me it closed, causing me to lose time. When I arrived at turn 2 there was a collision, which made me go straight on lap 1 I was 21st but I picked my way through the field to end up in 11th on on lap 12. I was lapping the same as 2nd position. Unfortunately coming out of turn 5 I highsided and fractured my metatarsal. Although I did not finish I cannot be disappointed, it showed what I am capable of and it’s given me a confidence boost.
It was a fantastic weekend overall, even with the DNF I still felt really happy with my performance. The track was incredible, I loved it.
I would like to say thank you to my team for their hard work, it wouldn’t have been possible without their support.
Dan”
